Sponsor a teacher

Our family sponsors two teachers at St Jude’s, and it happened that both of them were mentioned in the latest school newsletter!

Mr Sebastian Gitbang

Mr Sebastian is the Head of the Social Studies Department but next year he will become the Academic Master at Usa River. In this role he will be in charge of all the heads of academic departments and teachers at that campus. Currently he is receiving wise counsel from Nestory Msoffe the Academic Master at Moshono in preparation for the new challenges he will take on next year.

Miss Genofeva and the Hoey family

Miss Genofeva teaches Kindergarten and Year 1. Here she is with some students and the Hoey family who also sponsor her. You can find out a bit more about her here on my blog.

When you sponsor a teacher at St Jude’s your donation helps to provide teaching resources. Teachers also know that someone on the other side of the world is interested in what they do. We are nourished by the interest of others. What are you interested in today? What are you nourishing with your interest?

Get to know Genofeva

Miss Genofeva is one of the teachers that I sponsor at the School of St Jude. She has been at the School since 2004, teaching Kinder and Prep classes, but this year she is the homeroom teacher for Class 1F and teaches Kiswahili in Standards 1 and 2.

Genofeva is a member of the Girls’ Affairs committee that helps female students address issues that specifically affect them. In addition, she is part of the Staff Support committee that provides peer support to teachers.

She is a very busy lady, because as well as teaching, she has a one-year old daughter and also cares for her four year old niece who was orphaned.

Her gentle spirit is evident in her care for others.

She says she is proud to work at The School of St Jude because she understands the importance of educating fellow Tanzanians who, due to poverty, haven’t been blessed with the opportunities she enjoys.

The School of St Jude relies on the professional knowledge and commitment of teachers like Genofeva to bring the best standard of education to children from very poor homes.

Your support for the school makes it possible for Tanzanians like Genofeva to build a better future for their country.

Always improving

The School of St Jude is enjoying the professional input from two American teacher-educators funded by the Smith Foundation. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Amy and Freda visited the School in November-December 2006 and ran an intensive training exercise for the staff. Their work was wide-ranging and included curriculum development as well as class room techniques.

I see that these two educators will be visiting St Judes again in March 2007, to build on the work already started.

Like everyone who comes in contact with the School, Amy and Freda have returned home on fire with enthusiasm for the great work the school is doing. Amy says –

In addition to my sponsorship of Bilal, in the month I have been home, five friends here in America have also signed on to sponsor children at the school, a blessing for these little ones who have such great need and such big dreams. Thanks to everyone for your support! If you are interested in finding out what is involved in sponsorship for a St Judes child, you can visit their website: www.schoolofstjude.co.tz - or - you can send me a message or give me a call.

You can keep in touch with their enthusiasm and activities at Amy's blog.
